The Flag of Ireland Colouring Sheet

Free

This colouring sheet features the flag of Ireland.

The flag of Ireland, officially known as the National Flag or Bratach Náisiúnta in Irish, is a vertical rectangular tricolour of green, white, and orange.

It's one of the few national flags where the order of the colours carries specific symbolism, read from the hoist (the side closest to the flagpole) outwards:

  • Green: Represents the native people of Ireland (largely Roman Catholic) and the nationalist tradition.

  • White: Placed centrally, the white symbolizes a lasting peace and truce between the two cultural traditions on the island.

  • Orange: Represents the Protestant minority, particularly the supporters of William of Orange, who defeated James II at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

The flag's proportions are usually 1:2 (meaning it is twice as wide as it is high).

It was first flown publicly in 1848 and adopted as the flag of the Irish Free State in 1922
