The Flags of The United Kingdom

Free

The United Kingdom (UK) is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Each country has its own special flag:

  • England – A red cross on a white background (St George’s Cross).

  • Scotland – A white diagonal cross on a blue background (St Andrew’s Cross).

  • Wales – A red dragon on a green and white background.

  • Northern Ireland – A red cross on white with a red hand, star, and crown (Ulster Banner).

When some of these flags are combined, they make the Union Jack, which is the flag of the whole United Kingdom. The Union Jack shows parts of the English, Scottish, and Northern Irish flags all joined together. (The Welsh dragon isn’t included because Wales was already joined with England when the flag was created.)

Each flag is full of history and shows pride in the country it represents. Together, they are part of what makes the UK unique!
